Farookh Bulsara, alias Freddie Mercury, was born on September 5, 1946 in Zanzibar. He studied piano in a boarding school in Mumbai, India. He moved together with his family in London, where he studied at the Ealing College of Art. He played in a few bands before joining with Roger Taylor, Brian May and in 1971 with John Deacon. They called themselves Queen and Mercury was the frontman, one of the most talented singers of the rock era.
Queen released the first album in 1973 but the real success came with their first hit "Killer Queen". They were number two in the UK charts. A year later the band had a bigger success with the album "A night at the opera". Freddie Mercury wrote the rock – operetta "Bohemian Rhapsody". The song became a top 10 hit in the USA. He was a taleted singer, writer and showman. He new hao to keep the audience connected at their music.
"We are the Champions" and "We will rock you" became the popular anthems played at the sport competitions. "Radio Ga Ga" became a hit all over the world in the 80s. Their live performances were amazing. They gather huge crowds araund the world. In 1988 Mercury collaborated with the great opera singer, Montserrat Caballe, for the memorable song "Barcelona".
In his personal life Freddie Mercury kept his relationships private, although he was open when speaking about his bisexuality. He was a passionate art collector.
In 1989 there were rumors about possible health problems and two years later Mercury gave a statement:
"I wish to confirm that I have been tested HIV positive and have AIDS. I felt it correct to keep this information private to date to protect the privacy of those around me. However, the time has come now for my friends and fans around the world to know the truth and I hope that everyone will join with my doctors and all those worldwide in the fight against this terrible disease."
A day later the great artist died at his London mansion. He was only 45 years old. He still lives in our memory through his peerless songs.
