My career is a complete mystery to me… It’s been a total surprise since the first day. I never thought I was going to be an actress. I never thought I was going to be in movies. I never thought it will all happen the way it did.
Audrey Hepburn story begins with a little fragile girl, who unfortunately experienced the cruelty of the II World War and who dreamed of becoming a prima ballerina. Instead of that she became a great and beloved actress and a icon of fashion and style. She changed the definition of class and glamour and the effects can still be seen untill today. Besides her beauty Audrey was a excellent actress. She played in over 25 successfull movies, but she considers that her greatest role was her work as a UNICEF International Goodwill Ambassador. Although she earned five Best Actress Nominastion but only one award.
Audrey Hepburn was born in Bruxelles on 4th May 1929. She remained in our memories for her talent, beauty, elegance and grace. She spent a part of her life in England in a boarding school. After the War she studied ballet in Amsterdam and than in London. Her feature film debut was in 1951 in One Wild Oat. At the age of 22 she was introduced to the american public. She went to New York to star in the Broadway production of Gigi. Two years later she won the Academy Award for the Best Actress for her performance in the film Roman Holiday, where she played with Gregory Peck and her role was of Princess Ann. During her career she starred in famous movies with great names like Fred Astaire, Jane Fonda, Burt Lancaster, Carey Grant, Sean Connery.
Audrey married the actor Ferrer on September 25, 1954 in Switzerland. 1960 Audrey gave birth to a beautiful baby, a boy. The couple named him Sean. Seven years later they got divorced and the actress married the italian psychiatrist Andrea Dotti. 1970 the new couple had a son, Luca.
In the 80s and 90s Audrey Hepburn worked sporadically. In her later years acting took a back seat, because she was more dedicated to the problems of poor children. In 1993 she won a special Academy Award for her humanitarian work. Unfortunately she died on Jannuary 20, 1993 after a battle of colon cancer. Her children, Sean Ferrer and Luca Dotti, established the Audrey Hepburn Memorial Found, which continues to help children all around the world.
