Romy Schneider - is destined to remain in the history of cinema. Her northern German appearance, angular face with prominent cheekbones and the dimple recalls in our memory Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich. I admire the inner fire and a strong sense that she puts in the work. In addition, it phenomenally photogenic. (Robert Enrico)
Rosemarie Magdalena Alba – Retta was born in Vienna on 23 September 1938. Her parents were actors and they divorced when the girl was only seven years old. Her mother was working in the operetta and Romy was placed in a Catholic boarding school. Her great dream was to become an actress. When she was 13 years old si wrote in her diary that:
Music, theater, cinema, travel, art. These five words make my theatrical blood boil.
The first huge success for Romy Schneider was the role of the English Queen Victoria in the film Youth Queen, directed by Ernst Marishka. He also directed the trilogy about the last Austrian Empress Elisabeth. She was very appreciated and loved, so the people called her Sissy. The film was a real success, but his secret was Romy Schneider, who looked exactely like the idolized Empress.
The actress played many complex dramatic roles. She met Alain Delon when she was shooting the film Christine. It was love at first side, but they admitted only when the work came to an end. In March 1959 they legitimized their relationship.
The beautiful actress concludes a seven – year contract with Hollywood. She went to the United States and Alain remained in France. A close friend of hers said that Romy would give the world to become his wife and that Alain Delon was the man of her life. Unfortunately it wasn’t like that for the actress. She received a letter from Delon: I return your freedom and you leave your heart …
Life continued after the relationship with Delone. She got married a couple of times and had two children: a wonderful boy, David, and a beautiful girl, Sarah Magdalena.
In 1968 Alain Delon asked Romy Schneider to play in Swimming Pool, his movie. Despite the fact that she was exhausted, the actress flew right away to France. According to the critics it was the first film, where the actress submitted a fully maturity and a triumphant beauty.
Romy Schneider experienced one of the most dramatic moments in her life. Her son died in 1981. David remained with his father after the divorce and died in a tragical accident. Romy was devasteted, but Delon appeared in her life, as he did in all her critical moments. He took care and assumed the funeral. Romy closed her soul after the death of her son and Alain was almost the only one whose company she could stand. The day I stop trusting you, the last day in my life… She trusted the love of her life until her death.
Her heart stopped in May 29, 1982 when she was only 43 years old.
Art - this is what makes the mystery of light. This compliment, I would like to address Romy Schneider, this tragic artist. (Jean Cocteau)
