After the museum opened it's new building in 2004, this is the third show hosted here, this one being dedicated to graphic arts. This time visitors have the chance of browsing through a rich selection of grahic artworks from the museum's own collections, which have around 15.000 works on paper, so a sellection was difficult to make.
It is after all a rare opportunity of seeing first hand some of the best creations in the field of graphic arts, ranging from the beginning of the 20th century to nowadays, an impressive and diverse history. Most of the works have rarely been seen before in exhibitions, mainly due to the concerns about degradation and strict conservation reasons. The exhibits have been place in a chronological order, the works on paper being placed next to paintings, sculptures and works of photography, which help to build a more comprehensive image.
The list of the artists present in the show includes famous names such as Ludwig Meidner, Oskar Kokoschka, George Grosz, Raoul Hausmann, El Lissitzky, Käthe Kollwitz, Otto Dix, Jeanne Mammen, Werner Heldt, Hans Uhlmann, Fred Tiehler, Hermann Glockner, Walter Stohrer and others, as well as contemporary artists such Hanns Schimansky, Paco Knoller, Nanne Meyer, Eva-Maria Schon, Michael Kalmbach, Caro Suerkemper and Theresa Lukenwerk.
