"Glass Beads of Ghana" is, for those who are interested in African art, a major event, for it is the first show which examines in great detail this important, yet overlooked form of art, which is also a great example of the creativity and talent of popular artists. This exhibition focuses mainly on neew, contemporary creations of this kind, chosen from those in southern Ghana, proving how this art developed over time. Besides actual glass beads, the curators have chosen a number of bead molds and tools, as well as video footage and photographs.
To further complete the whole image, historic examples of glass beads from Ghana, Nigeria, Mauritania, Italy have been included, to show the diversity of this art. Most of the works on the show come from the museum's own collection, one of the largest of it's kind in the world.
