One of the most important and prolific living German artists, Georg Baselitz was born in 1938 in Saxony and is today a painter, draughtsman, printmaker and sculptor. So far, his best known works have been the series of compositions, mostly paintings, in which the motifs are turned upside down, as a symbol of the liberty of creation. He created landscapes, still-lifes, figures, animals, birds. |
The prestigious Royal Academy of Arts in London, UK, is hosting until December 9th the first important Baselitz retrospective, bringing together around 60 paintings, as well as a great number of sculptures, prints, drawings, to complete the artist's creative universe. It is also a rare opportunity for the artist's admirers to discover firsthand over five decades of his career, from the very early paintings to the mature works such as "Fracture". Also, the curators have included some of his newest works, in which Baselitz return to his favourite themes, this time treated in a new manner.
