It was on November 4th 1963 that the Beatles played a concert at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London, before the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret. At the end, before Twist and Shout, it was the moment that John Lennon might have waited for all evening. So he simply asked the distinguished public:
- "For our last number, I’d like to ask your help. Will the people in the cheaper seats clap your hands? And for the rest of you, if you’d just rattle your jewelry".
It was, without a doubt, the classic Lennon and the Beatles type of humour, as you can also read bellow.
Reporter: What will you do when Beatlesmania subsides?
John Lennon: Count the money.
After arriving in the USA (and soon conquering North America as well).
Reporter: What did you think when your airplane's engine began smoking as you landed today?
A very serious Ringo Starr: Beatles, women, and children first!
American Reporter: They think your haircuts are un-American.
A bored John Lennon: Well, it was very observant of them, because we aren't American, actually.
During another press conference.
Journalist from the audience: Do you get much fan mail?
Ringo Starr: We get 2000 letters a day.
John Lennon: We answer every one of them personally.
Reporter asks George Harrison: How has success changed your life?
George Harrison: Yes.
After the Beatles surprised everybody with a movie, the public wanted another one.
Journalist: When are you starting your next movie?
Paul McCartney: In February.
George Harrison: We have no title for it yet.
Ringo Starr: We have no story for it yet.
John Lennon: We have no actors for it yet.
And the same controversies about the haircuts.
Reporter: What do you call that hairstyle?
George Harrison: Arthur.
Journalist: Does it bother you that you can't hear what you sing during concerts?
John Lennon (very serious): No, we don't mind. We've got the records at home.
Reporter: How do you add up success?
The Fab Four together: Money!
And sometimes it wasn't enough to be in the Beatles. You still got burned.
Reporter at a press conference: Is Ringo the best drummer in the world?
John Lennon: Ringo isn't even the best drummer in the Beatles.
For the great finish the same Ringo Starr.
Reporter: Ringo, why do you think you get more fan mail than anyone else in the group?
Ringo Starr: I don’t know. I suppose it’s because more people write me.
