Frederik VIII climbs the throne in 1906, age 63 and even though he reigns only for 6 short years his reign is not free of important events. In 1908 the minister of justice, Alberti, is accused of fraud, the scandal leading to the demission of Christiansen cabinet and the adoption of a new Constitution.
In 1869 king Frederik marries the only daughter of King Carl the XV of Sweden and Norway - Louise of Sweden, overcalled The Swan due to her long neck and sober attitude. He will give the king eight children: Christian, Carl, Louise, Harald, Ingeborg, Thyra, Gustav and Dagmar.
In 1912 the king suffers a seizure and leaves for the South of France. On the 14th of May 1912, at his return, he dies under strange circumstances while landing at Hamburg with his wife. He is said to have suffered from embolism while taking a walk on his own. He was immediately transported to a maritime hospital in town. Because he had no Identity card on him, his family and friends will find him much later.
