The 12th edition of the European Film Festival will start on Thursday, May 8th 2008, in Bucharest, presenting a total of 39 movies, of all kinds and genre, thus creating a thorough image of contemporary european cinematic arts. The Festival will begin in Bucharest, between 8 - 18 May, then the movies will also be presented in Timisoara, Craiova and Iasi. It is also the first edition of this important film festival to be organised by the ICR.
This year's edition theme is surprising for a film festival (to say the least) - gastronomy. The art of cooking, the magic of food, and their reflection of some kind in films, as an expression of creation and multiculturalism. Movie lovers will have the opportunity of seeing the 39 chosen works at the Cinema Studio and at the Museum of Romanian Peasant, which will open a brand new proiection hall. The ten movie directors that made the selection for the festival are important names, many recipients of important international distinctions and prizes, such as Radu Munteanu, Cristi Puiu, Nae Caranfil, Cristian Mungiu or Tudor Giurgiu. All have signed important movies and projects in the past, and it is safe to say that the public can trust them regardind the value of the movies chosen.
Various movies will be shown, made in France, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, Germany and so on, different genres and visions, different and highly interesting styles of working with the camera and actors. Without a doubt, this will be a true event for anyone who likes good and inteligent movies, and it will not be a surprise for the number of viewers to be even larger than at the previous edition.
