- The band Directia 5 was founded in 1991, in Bucharest. In the begining the band was represented by Catalin Onoiu, Florin Ionescu, Razvan Mirica, Vlaicu Giurgea, Dragos Badoi and Marian Ionescu.
The debut album was released in 1992 with the name At the sea eagle with the fish in claws. In the same year the group performed at the Bregenz festival from Austria two songs, gaining the second place.
Live recordings from the festival were live transmited by MTV.
Since 1994, Directia 5 is known outside the country and so the single Di Anka was a success in Luxemburg and Belgium, where reaches to the 10th position.
1996 brings a major rupture in the band. Razvan Mirica, Catalin Onoiu and Florin Ionescu retire saying that this formula is actually Directia 5. In this context between 1996-1997 in Romania where two bands Directia 5, one under the leadership of Florin Ionescu and other under the leadership of Marian Ionescu, called Directia 5 and Loredana, which soon disbanded.
In 1998, Marian Ionescu decides to set up a new Directia 5 band, in a new formula, co-opting Marius Keseri, Nicu Damalan and Cristi Enache.
Over the career, Directia 5 became one of the most beloved bands, releasing in time 15 albums with several hits and obtained important awards for musical performances.
