The Andy Warhol Museum is presenting between 17 December 2006 - 18 March 2007 an exhibition dedicated to the origins of the Holocaust, with the title "Deadly Medicine : Creating the Master Race". The organizers have tried to explore the roots of the tragedy, or how the Holocaust was based on the scientific and pseudo-scientific theories of hat time, which forever changed the face of the world. At the beginning of the 20th century the theory of eugenics, mainly based on the "survival of the fittest" theory gained more and more followers, many of those dreaming to one day apply it to humans. Thus, the "inferior" had to be eliminated, at first the individuals, then whole races, as the genetic health of a nation could be improved by this means. As horrific as that seems today, this kind of theories were very popular at that time and paved the way for the Holocaust, as the exhibition is showing, by means of various archival sources, ranging from artifact to hundreds of photographs and survivor testimonies. It is a premiere, as it is the first time that an exhibition is presenting the origins and history of the National-Socialist racial and biological policy.
The exhibition is organized by United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Washington, DC, with the help of several Jewish foundations, being a collaboration between The Andy Warhol Museum and the Holocaust Center of the United Jewish Federation of Pittsburgh.
