The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, will be the host of an important retrospective showcasing the work of the Romanian artists Dan Perjovschi and Lia Perjovschi, titled " States of Mind: Dan and Lia Perjovschi". The exhibition will open on the 23rd of August and will close on the sixth of January 2008, offering the art lovers a chance of discovering the creations of tow of Romania's most important contemporary artists. The exhibition will include paintings, drawings, photographs, sculpture, installations, ranging form the 1980's to present day, some of the works being exhibited for the first time.
This event will be organised a decade after the Perjovschis' first exhibition in the US, also hosted at the Duke University. In 1997 the two artists also taught for a whole semester at the University, in Department of Art and Art History. During this summer Dan Perjovschi will also have an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, where visitors will most likely be surprised to see that the artist has created large drawings on the very wall of the central atrium. |
The Nasher Museum won't "escape" his ideas, as several drawing will deocrate the exterior windows of the building.
The two Romanian artists, Dan and Lia Perjovschi, were born in Sibiu, Romania, in 1961, and are nowadays two of the best known young voices in the avant-garde generation. Dan Perjovschi, considered by many the most important political cartoon satirist in Romania, is well known because of his passion for large drawings and installations, deep and personal depictions of the current events and art world. He has had several successful exhibition in Europe : Cologne, London, Frankfurt am Main. Lia Perjovschi is also one of the most apreciated Romanian artists, working as a conceptual artist who chooses to analiyze historical and cultural formations and concepts. |
The "States of Mind" exhibition will be curated by Kristine Stiles, who is not only a professor of contemporary art at the Duke University, but also the best scholar on the Perjovschis' work. The museum will also publish a 150 page catalogue, all in colors, to present the works of the exhibitions.
