The 42nd edition of the Annual Cowboy Artists of America exhibition and Sale, hosted once again by the Phoenix Museum, is considered by collectors and art dealers to be one of the best Western American fine art events, as only few artists are able to capture the West in such a vivid and realistic manner. After the exhibition, an impressive Sale will - as it does each year - bring once again to the public eye the most important artworks and artists, being one of the museum's most successful fundraising events.
According to the organisers, more than 130 works signed by 22 artists, members of the Cowboy Artists of America, have been selected for the exhibition, ranging from bronze and stone sculptures to paintings, drawings, and others, all portraying the life of a cowboy. |
Some of the painters and sculptors featured in the exhibition have chosen to depict the West as it once was, long time ago, a West of cowboys and indians, forever gone. Others have tried to mix the old and the new in interesting compositions, from lone cowboys to battle of hunting scenes, all in beautiful and alive landscapes.
One of the main rules of this show and sale is that all works must have at least one figure, animal or human, and the second is that still lifes and functional art works are strictly forbidden. This time the Sale will take place on October 19, and is bound to attract literally hundreds of collectors, from all around the world, for it is much more that just an art auction. For the Sale, you must submit so-called intent-to-purchase slips, and the first name drawn has the first chance of drawings. Sort of like a duel, in which luck plays as much of a part as art expertise. Last year's sales went over the two million dollars limit, so this year's edition might be an equal success.
