In Viscri village, Brasov, still exists, well preserved, one of the most spectacular and - despite the size not too big - monumental saxon citadel wich embraces between its walls one of the few romanic hall-churches of the thirteenth century.
Many researchers were preocupied by the features of this unique monument and its enigmas that were unloosened in 1970-1971 by the archeologist Mariana Dumitrache.
The withdrawn position of the church explains its relatively late appearance in the official documents. Around the year 1400, "Alba ecclesia" appeared in a register of localities for the taxes owed to the episcopate of Rupea.
The church suffered some modifications in the past. The actual windows were transformed but the research of the walls showed traces of romanic windows that certanly were modified in the gotic transformations applied to the church. Also from the oval section were kept the sectors from south, east, noth-east and the river stone wall. The gate probably was always in the south-east.
In the fortification period from the sixteenth century the south-east sector was equipped with two towers and two strongholds. The south tower with three levels and defence hallway ahead wood solaces and the south stronghold are united under the same roof like the eastern stronghold.
In 1970 and 1971 the citadel church from Viscri was restored. The defence hallway of the eastern stronghold were rebuild.
From the year 1990 the Viscri citdel church is a part of the Unesco world heritage.
