Casa Boema, on Iuliu Maniu Street 34, is one of these restaurants, a place that is inviting, cosy, elegant and welcoming through a combination of excellent food and surprising interior design. It was the Romanian architect Cristian Corvin who transformed this 180 years old house into the restaurant you can see today, and thus not only the interior and the building changed, but also the name. Previously known as the Boema Summer Garden, and according to locals surprisingly popular some time ago, it became Casa Boema. A new name for a new beginning, as on the inside the large, open spaces have got a retro look with a modern touch, the gothic elements are still the largest part of the interior balance, while for the flood the choice was interesting: rustic and cement plates, decorated with Oriental motifs.
Once you enter the Casa Boema the whole interior becomes an interesting and beautiful example of how to change a place and still keep those touches and unique elements in a coherent, striking ensemble. The main inspiration for the color palette seems to be Nordic, rafined, and surprisingly pleasant and soothing – a light shade of blue for the wall panel with Gothic elements and the natural nuances for the furniture pieces, harmonising with the marble used for the countertop. Also interesting and equally well chosen are the benches in the restaurant, large, massive wood, all natural and decorated with light sculptures, the booths being made in the same manner.
The whole interior design has another finishing touch which may seem at first at odds, but it is actually nicely done: coffeehouse tables, light and elegant, next to bistro style chairs. Interesting, unusual for sure, but working nevertheless in making the space of the Casa Boema something else, something different. And another small, but nice detail – here you can chose the area where you have your lunch or dinner, maybe a brunch, so every day may be a new and different experience.
