One of the best known Romanian brands, with a history which goes back hundreds of years, and a mineral water which has gained it's popularity over time due to it's natural qualities and inteligent marketing campaigns, even before it was customary to do so. Not so much of a surprise as Borsec is still the number one mineral water in this country. With it's easily recognasible taste, low quantity of iron, this mineral water comes from Borsec, in the Harghita country, where one can find over 15 such mineral springs. And even if some say that the mineral waters here were known and used almost two thousand years ago, the modern story begins about two hundred years ago. More or less.

It was in about 1806 that an inteligent and inspired investor began bottling and exporting the Borsec mineral water, already known in the region due to it's quality and especially it's "healing powers", which made it the stuff of legends. Before becoming a business it was a popular place to come, to taste the waters, bring some for home, a place for getting together and relaxing, and maybe talk about the medieval history of the Borsec waters. Not long before it was a luxury item and was put into barrels and brought as merchandise or gifts for local and foreign nobles, but nobody could have thought that Borsec would become a succesful brand over the next centuries.
Then, at the beginning of the 19th century, two inspired investors from Vienna, Zimmetshausen and Eisner, heard about the mineral springs of Borsec and came here, wanting to see if it was just a story or a good opportunity for business. What they found here was simply gold, and in a short time they would rent the small settlement and terain for almost three decades, and even opened a bottle factory here. So they had it all in one place: the mineral water, the springs, the bottles and the marketing campaign. So they built roads, they finished the factory, hired foreign specialists from Austria and Poland, built houses and shops, in short they simply changed forever the aspect of Borsec. And it wasn't long before this became the most popular mineral water in Romania and a textbook example of business success.
