Also, waterfall Bigar was included, along with seven other waterfalls from different countries, in a top of unique waterfalls from the world, produced by magazine «The World Geography» in 2013. In the ranking "Eight unique waterfalls in the world", made by American journalists, waterfall Bigar holds the first place.
The exact location of the waterfall is Cheile Nerei (Nera Gorges) in Beușnița National Park – precisely on the 45th parallel, halfway between the Equator and the North Pole. The nature reserve was founded in 1982 and declared a protected zone. The natural area covers 176 hectares.
Each year the place attracts numerous tourists thanks to its unique appearance. Bigar Waterfall doesn't impress by size or flow but it is differentiated from others through its special shape like a mushroom hat. Bigar waterfall is almost 8 meters tall, and covered year round with a green layer of moss. Nearby is also a small cave that waits to be discovered, a tall hole carved into the hard rock. You will find here and delightful blue lakes but and a inimitable flora and fauna.
