The Magic Fontain of Montjuïc (Font màgica de Montjuïc) is located in the Montjuïc neighborhood of Barcelona in Spain. It was constructed – like most of the sourrounding buildings – for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition.
The fountain was designed by Carles Buigas. Many people thought that his plan is to ambitious, a “colossal, daring and costly piece of work”. Despite of all rumors, Buigas over 3000 workers for his project and less than 1 year later the magic fountain was born.
Buigas's project heralded the discovery of a new art, the art of light. Light would no longer be used only to illuminate the night, but rather to embellish it too. The magic fountain is a spectacular display of colour, light, motion, music and water acrobatics
The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc first spouted on 19 May 1929 during the Great Universal Exhibition and continues to delight visitors to Barcelona today.
