Located at the foot of the Pirin Mountains at an elevation of 927 m above sea level, the town of Bansko is the best winter resort in Bulgaria with the longest ski runs and the richest cultural history, which attracts many Bulgarian and foreign tourists.
Ski area lies at an altitude of 2000 - 2600 m and offer to their visitors ultimate conditions for all kinds of winter sports. The total area of the ski slopes is 210 km. The climate, influenced by both the Mediterranean and the Northern Russian steppes, provides a huge amount of snow on the mountain peaks lasting for almost all the winter months. Bansko is surrounded by some truly stunning scenery. Bansko has also an extremely rich catalogue of cultural events. A part of them have preserved the traditions in folklore, customs, woodcarving, painting and are of regional importance. In town are multiple museums and landmarks. 130 architectural and historical monuments of culture are registered, seven of which are of national significance.
