The Louvre Museum in Paris will present in the spring of 2008 a brand new exhibition, dedicated to the representations, myths and legends surrounding the ancient Babylon, as curators will try to reconcile the actual historical data and the stories in one, comprehensive presentation. |
The exhibits presented evoke the main phases in the founding of the ancient city and especially how the concept of an imaginary Babylon later appeared and developped, puttin all in the historical context. This new type of approach is made possible due to the new studies, which have passed beyond the biblical and classical sources, trying to rediscover the original texts and images. The main ages of the Babylonian civilisation are brought back to life by the selection of statues, precious objects, documents, texts, scrolls and many other exhibits, many of them unique in the world.
The evolution of the mythical and imaginary representation of Babylon throughout the ages is documented by prints, drawings, paintings, miniatures, to once again give the city's culture the place that it deserves. Also, a collection of drawings and documents traces the rediscovery of Babylon in the modern age, from the 17th century to the present.
