Without a doubt, Art Moscow has become the most important fair for contemporary art in Eastern Europe. The first edition took place in 1995, even since the beginning the Moscow Art Fair has atracted several prestigious collectors and art dealers. The last few years the number of participants has increased, more than sixty galleries from Russia, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, USA, UK presenting varied works. Art lovers can discover here a large selection of contemporary creations, from video and photography to painting, sculpture and installations, being able to understand which are the themes, techniques and trends in nowadays art, also to discover which artists are the best.
Besides the exhibitions organised by galleries, where visitors can buy the artworks they consider to be interesting, Art Moscow will also have several non-commercial exhibitions, but also lectures, master classes, meetings between collectors and art dealers. In 2006 the number of visitors increased to over 35.000, this year that record is bound to be broken, from art lovers to dealers, collectors, curators, experts.
The success of the Art Moscow is in close relationship to the development of Russian art market, which has literally exploded in the last decade, as more and more rich collectors have emerged in Eastern Europe. Most of them come from Russia, being rather young and successful businessmen, who can spend vast amounts of money for the artworks that interest them, and also have the possibility of employing the best specialists in the field. They chose to invest more in Russia than abroad and a prestigious art collection is by all means a good investement.
