Art Deco was a style very opulent. Its lavishness is mentioned and attributed usualy as a reaction to the forced austerity that was imposed by the First World War.
In the United States of America there are some railways stations built in the '30s that were designed in this style. Also the rich character of the Art Deco was fitted in modern contexts as the Golden Gate Bridge, the Paramount Theater in Oakland, California.
Art Deco movement, a popular international art and design style that was developed from 1925 until 1940s, made use of many other distinctive styles. The most significant feature of Art Deco was its independence upon a large variety of motifs and ornaments.
F. Scott Fitzgerald said that the distinctive style of Art Deco was shaped by all the energyes stored nervous and expended in the War.
Mostly the Art Deco movement was influenced by the Russian constructivism, cubism and the Italian futurism.
The materials and the design of Art deco is characterized by the use of materials such as aluminium, lacquer, stainless steel and inlaid wood, also some exotic materials as sharkskin or zebra skin. The stepped forms and sweeping curves combined with the sunburst motifs are typical for Art Deco.
Sunburst motifs were used for example in some contexts as ladies shoes in the fashion industry, radiator grilles in the car designing industry and in architecture, the Chrisler Building is onlyone example.
