Art Amsterdam, one of the best known art fairs, known in the past as KunstRAI, will open once again for it's 2007 edition, trying to reflect accurately the developments and principles in today's international art world. The organisers have chosen a record number of 125 galleries, both from the Netherlands and abroad, which will exhibit a great number of varied works, showing the changes and future of contemporary art. For this edition the number of foreign galleries has increased to 30, from countries such as Germany, Belgium, USA, UK, Switzerland, Poland and even Korea, among others. One key feature will most likely be the surprise exhibition of Asian Art, ranging from China to India.
For this prestigious event that is Art Amsterdam 2007 the visitors will also have the chance of discovering the Amsterdam Temporary Museum, opened from 9 to 13 May, with the participation of several major contemporary art institutes, such Stedelijk Museum, De Appel or Huis Marseille. This event is also a great chance for galleries, boith foreign and Dutch, to meet and conduct business with major players in the art collecting world, as more than 60 key figures in this field have already anounced their participation.
The most important prize is most likely to be the Thieme Art Award, which will be won by the most apreciated young artist. Sponsored once again (for the fifth time) by Thieme Grafimedia Group, the prize will not only be a recognition of the talent, but also the chance of publishing a colour catalogue and a presentation of the artist's work at the next Art Amsterdam. The last year's winner, Martina Sauter, will have a big exhibition at the 2007 edition.
The organisers of Art Amsterdam 2007 have also invited around one hundred beginner collectors, who have just made their first stepts into the fascinating world of art collecting, ro spend a whole day at the fair. They will have the opportunity to learn and discover what is important and what is not, which are the best new artists, how can one spot an interesting buy, "lessons" taught by experienced collectors.
