The Chocolate Museum in Cologne is situated on the banks of the Rhine river in a building that looks like a great ship. The architecture is a fine combination between old and new, historical and modern. His owner was Hans Imhoff, a man who was from the early childhood fascinated from the chocolate aroma. He spent his life trying to improve its taste and its quality. After the war he rehabilited the Stollwerk company, which has until today a great successful history, a leader in the world market. In 1993 he build his own chocolate museum in the Cologne Rhein harbour. He died on 21 December 2007.
Visiting this museum you can take a walk through the spectacular 3000 years old chocolate history. It also offeres a memorable experience for anyone who sees the exhibition of photos, the documentaries about the cocoa been and its story. We can see how the once “food of the gods” was transformed into modern industrial products.
As soon you enter in the building a sweet aroma envelops you. The tours thorugh the levels of the museum are as a open book, which can teach us about the production of the chocolate bunnies, truffles, bars, Easter eggs, etc.
At the end of the tour you can see a 3 m high chocolate fontain, overflowing with warm dark chocolate. Visitors may dip waffles into it and try the unic taste.
