2. Why did the pigs became the birds' mortal arch-enemies? The answer is rather simple. When the game was being created the Swine Flu was making the headlines. Only the pigs in the game were coloured in green.
3. There is much more in the franchise than just the original Angry Birds game. There's Angry Birds Rio, in space, in the Star Wars universe, there is even a racing video game, puzzle games, RPG games and the creators are surely preparing something new for the future.
4. The Angry Birds Movie was released in 2016 and on a 70 million dollars budget it gained over 350 worldwide. It is the second most successful video game film in history, surpassed only by Warcraft. So it is also the most successful Finnish movie ever made.
5. While developing a video game might cost you several hundreds thousands dollars (even over one million) the original part of the series, the one that caused all of the global madness, was about 70,000 dollars. For a hit video game this is almost the lowest you could go. It was made by a small team of four people and all the way during the making it was not considered a priority for the company.
6. The piggies proved to be so popular and fun that it didn't take long for them to have their very own game, Bad Piggies. Only this time you had to build complicated machinery used for flying and stealing the eggs from the birds.
7. It is difficult to account for the number of downloads for the franchise, for there are games for Apple, Android, PC, consoles and so on. But the estimates are that over two billion Angry Birds downloads have been made, and the number increases every day.
8. Among famous Angry Birds fans are David Cameron, Angelina Jolie, Conan O'Brien, Kylie Minogue and many, many others.
9. As with every succesful franchise the video games are just the tip of the iceberg. There are also plushes and toys, board games and building blocks, Angry Birds comics and books, colouring books and TV series, drinking cups and clothing, soft drinks and the list goes on and on. And it doesn't seem to be slowing down any time soon.
10. It takes a while to hit it big. Rovio, the company that produced Angry Birds, had made over 50 games before without much commercial or critical impact. Who knows, maybe without this big break it would have eventually closed down.
