Romania's National Museum of Art, together with the Romanian Ministry for Culture and Cults and the French Ministry For Culture and Communication and Reunion de Musees Nationaux (RMN) is organising the exhibition "Shadows and Lights. Four Centuries of French Painting." -which will be opened between 15th of July and 2nd of October 2005. It is the most important cultural event in Romania since 1990. The museum will present 77 works, loaned by famous museums from Paris and other regions of France, signed by artists like Pussin, Chardin, Ingres, David, Delacroix, Cezanne, Matisse, Braque. The exhibition is trying to present to the Romanian public French art, from the XVIIth century to the end of the XXth century, by means of the theme which had affirmed itself as a feature of french painting. The four centuries presented are designated by sugestie metaphores for the characteristics of French art: the XVIIth century in one of vanity and truth, the XVIIIth is the Age of Gentlness in filigree, the XIXth deals with Nature analysis, and the XXth century ilustrates the new Art, one which is rediscovered and reinvented.
