In 2009 was organized for the first time the International Festival of Contemporary Art of Algiers and it took place at the the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Algiers.
It’s purpose is to promote contemporary art production that is always at the heart of the living, proof of its vitality and freedom and to be a crossroad of different aesthetic and artistic discourses.
This edition will take place from 3 December 2011 to 3 February 2012 and its theme is called “Retour”. It is a concept proposed in its broad philosophical, social, cultural and artistic sense. It can be observed a revisit of the past and its highlights, the history of societies and individuals, the different periods in art and culture, spirituality, the grand ideologies, the migrations and exile they have implicated, the departures they have meant, so many returns because of the negation of return itself, in the end, a sort of "eternal return"…
At the festival will take parte artists from different countries: Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey, Germany, Romania, Russia, Korea, Pakistan, Senegal, Cameroon, Morocco, Tunisia, Paraguay, Algeria, and Serbia.
